If you’re like me and enjoy using Laundromat facilities, or, rely on them due to not having an in-home washer/dryer, then this guide will be perfect for you.
I’ve been using local Laundromats for nearly 5 years now as for one it gets me out of the house and second I find it to be more economical as I’ve determined that my “cost per load” at the facility is cheaper than at home – especially since I receive free laundry detergent at the facility (something that I certainly would have to pay for at home).

What you need to know about Laundromats
Laundromat facilities have been around for approximately 7 decades with approximately 29,500 current Laundromats operating throughout the US (source – counlaundry.org). With that said, it’s safe to assume that there’s a local Laundromat in your area and we’ll help to show how you can determine which Laundromat facilities are best to use.
What’s the easiest way to find the closest Laundromat?
Nowadays, it’d be hard-pressed to come across a business that doesn’t have a website, and this includes Laundromats as they rely heavily upon local ads and Google to drive foot traffic to their facilities.
By far, the easiest approach to finding a Laundromat within your area is to search Google with an inquiry similar to “local Laundromat” or “laundry facility around me”.
Such searches will most certainly return results for laundry facilities within your area which will provide you with the exact information that you’re after. Furthermore, the local listings for these Laundromats should include a phone number to the facility in which you can contact for any inquiries that you may have.
How do I find out if a laundry facility is open 24 hours?
When it comes to finding a 24-hour Laundromat the best piece of advice that I have to offer is first to use the steps provided above that are used to “find” a laundry-washing facility.
When you have the results displayed in Google for the local Laundromats simply choose the facility in which you’d like to visit and call the phone number that’s listed for an inquiry on their operational hours.
Alternatively, check to see if the Laundromat has a website as if they do their hours of operation will be available.
Are your local Laundromats Offering Specials or Discounts?
Up until 3-4 months ago, I was using the same Laundromat for 3 years and while this facility provided me with 5-star service and top-of-the-line washer/dryer machinery the prices “per load” were a bit higher than the average laundry center.
Because of this, I made the choice to begin searching for other local Laundromats in my area and within just a couple of minutes came across a Laundromat facility that was 2.5 miles closer to my residence in addition to offering me with a free membership card that provides me with a 25% discount per load for a 6-month period.
Thank goodness I called their facility at first to inquire about their business hours as if I had not I probably wouldn’t have known about this exceptional rewards program (their employee pitched the discount program to me on the phone and I couldn’t turn it down).
Now, I’m driving a shorter distance and on top of that saving more money – a win-win situation.
If you want to do as I have and want to see what local Laundromats offer discounts simply search Google for “Laundromat discounts” or “local laundry facilities” and see what listings populate.
I’d suggest that you contact at least a few of the facilities to inquire on what discounts programs, if any, are available. With as many Laundromats as there are available you’re bound to have at least 1-2 locally within your area that offer a discount of some sorts.
What all is provided at Laundromats?
Some Laundromats are quite versatile in their amenities with some providing their customers with high-definition TV’s, snack bars, vending machines, and coffee makers to help keep you awake while you’re waiting.
Some laundry facilities will also provide a lounge area with complimentary Wi-Fi which in my opinion are some of the best perks that any Laundromat can extend to their customers.
Aside from these sorts of perks, obviously, all Laundromats offer washing machines and dryers (BIG surprise!) although some will have machinery installed that’s more current/modern. Some Laundromats have continued to use older equipment which will still get the job done however if you choose to use a facility that has newer washers/driers these will commonly have additional washer settings that you can adjust based on the clothing you’re washing.
Also, it’s a commonality for upscale Laundromats with newer equipment to provide some of the other discussed perks such as vending machines, areas for lounging, and free access to the internet. With that said, just by inquiring with a Laundromat about the washers they have available will be a signaling factor as to what to expect from the facility (regarding not only perks but service as well).
Finally, if available, check the Laundromats website. If a website is available it’s expected that the facility will have images of the inside of their Laundromat which will show you what all is available.
Alternatively, they may perhaps have a website page dedicated to perks/services/amenities so do a bit of research to see what all you can learn about what’s offered at their location.
How can I keep myself occupied while my clothes are washing or drying?
Assuming that you’re going to follow the steps above to research and find a Laundromat with some of the many amenities that some offer you won’t have any issues with keeping yourself occupied while your clothing is being washed/dried.
From a waiting/lounging area, to coffee machines, snack machines, and televisions displaying shows/games – there are many various offerings that Laundromats can offer and if you find the right one that offers some of these perks you’ll be able to keep yourself busy so you’re not inflicted with boredom.
Of course, when I go to the Laundromat I always make sure that I tote my tablet along with me so I can enjoy playing my games online over the Laundromats complimentary Wifi.
